Fordyce Orchids

Today, upon advice from a fellow orchid enthusiast, I visited a well known orchid nursery in Livermore (unfortunate name huh?) California called Fordyce Orchids (see http://www.fordyceorchids.com). Fordyce Orchids is part of larger orchid facility with two other business called the Orchid Ranch. Very nice folks with a huge selection of cattleya hybrids. Needless to say I came away with more than I should. Here is the haul: - Diacattleya Chantilly Lace 'Twinkle'
- Slc. Mini Doris 'Carmela' AM/AOS x Lc. Mini Purple 'Full Figure' HCC/AOS
- Sophronitis cernua v. pterocarpa x S. cernua 'Red'
- Laelia anceps 'Fordyce Orchids'
- Scaphyglottis prolifera
I met the owner, Frank Fordyce, who is a very nice man with lots of knowledge about the cattleya alliance. Near the end of the visit he informed me that the land under the Orchid Ranch had been sold and they would be closing soon.It has always been a dream of mine to own an orchid greenhouse so I was saddened by the news. If you are in the neighborhood, get out there fast and check this treasure out before it is gone.
